We all know how heavy UTV tires can be and Bighorn is commonly reviewed as quite bulky but due to the redesigning or improvement in the 2.0 model, the tire is much lighter than the original model for more than a pound while still retaining the design and construction. As for sizing, you can find the Bighorn original in 12, 14, and 15 inches options while the newer version is available at 11 for rear only, 12, and 14 inches for both rear and front placement.

Now for the most important part which is the performance itself but in this part we hardly found any difference between Maxxis Bighorn and 2.0. In general if you have tried the original Bighorn then the second generation will behave the same. The two are more versatile options that can handle various surfaces but they do perform really well on loose and sticky terrain such as mud. These tires can dig in into the dirt and tow your vehicle away with confidence.
Some concerns about the tire is their sidewall which seems not as durable and many have to change theirs as well during adventure but in our opinion it can be related to the pressure thus, you may want to keep it a bit lower to maintain the longevity. Overall both Maxxis Bighorn and 2.0 works really well on mud and if you often drive in several different types of terrain; both gravel and muds, we do think they can handle the job.

For the friendlier surface or gravel and racing on more stable ground, these tires are not going to be at their best. We will be compromising on comfort as it is not surprising yet the two will be less confident to ride on gravel and at higher speed. It seems the tread pattern can sometimes stray which makes you have to put extra attention to when driving the vehicle. The reason is probably because they don’t have directional tread patterns.

On the riding experience it seems there is not that much of a difference between Maxxis Bighorn and 2.0 when it comes to performance but since the tire is lighter, it is probably better for your vehicle. The two behave similarly and are ideal for the more general application that doesn’t specifically towards either rock, mud, or gravel. They can handle almost any terrain but if you will be climbing rocks and struggling with a deep pool of mud, we do recommend the more specific models to handle such jobs.

Both Maxxis Bighorn and 2.0 are good tires for your fun and adventure out there. They are almost like the same models and the real difference only on the shaved off weight due to the minimalistic tread chunk which is now shallower. The behavior of the tire itself doesn’t change and they can work well across different terrains including gravel with rocks and sticky mud. They are equally 6-ply and radial constructed but the Bighorn 2.0 is available in smaller size at 11 inches for the front tire while the original Bighorn is also available at 15 inches.
